What is IF 2020?
IF 2020 is a 24-hour, online celebration of improvisational arts. This virtual festival begins on August 8th at Midnight UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) and will feature pre-recorded video performances from multi-disciplinary artists around the world: musicians, poets, dancers, theatre practitioners, and more. IF 2020 is being put on by the International Institute for Critical Studies in Improvisation at the University of Guelph.
How much does IF 2020 cost? Do I need a ticket?
IF 2020 is completely free, and there is no need to purchase a ticket! You may simply stream the event through the livestream on our website once the festival has begun.
Where do I watch?
The festival will be streamed on the IF 2020 website (improvfest.ca) under the “watch” tab. You can access the event through this link. We welcome you to treat yourself to a full festival experience as much as you can at home: invite your loved ones and host a viewing party, bake a special dessert, lay in the hammock, make a blanket fort—it’s up to you!
When does IF 2020 start?
Given that IF 2020 is an international, 24-hour festival, it will begin and end different times depending on where you live. To find your local start time, please use the handy tool on our website.
Is there a schedule?
In the spirit of happenstance discovery, this festival has no posted schedule. Depending on when you tune in, you may happen to catch a performer you already know and love, but you will also discover intriguing performances by acts you’ve never experienced before. You know that feeling of wandering by a festival stage, with no clue who may be on, and thinking, “why don’t I give it a try?” This event captures that magic, in online form!
What if I miss the festival?
Like the live festivals many of us would have attended this summer, IF 2020 performances will only be available for the 24-hour duration of the festival, from midnight (UTC) on August 8th to midnight (UTC) on August 9th.
